Under the Auspices of Prime Minister Dr. Rami Al Hamdallah The Inauguration of Tulkarem Courthouse and Public Prosecution

On Feb 9, 2017- High Judicial Council inaugurated Tulkarem Courthouse and Public Prosecution Funded by the Government of Canada with attendance of high-level representatives from governmental institutions, security sector, police and donors.

The inauguration ceremony was held with participation from Prime Minister Dr. Rami Al Hamdallah, Chief Justice Chancellor Emad Saleem Saad, Minister of Justice Ali Abu-Diak, Attorney General Ahmen Barak, Chairman of Palestinian Bar Association Hussien Shabaneh, and Representative of Canada to the Palestinian Authority Doglas Browdfot, and representatives from Tulkarem Municipality.

In his speech, Chancellor Saad establishing new courthouses is among of the council strategic goals and came in the frame of developing infrastructure of courts and providing suitable litigation environment appropriate for the use of litigators and judges and member of prosecution and based on the constitutional rights stipulated in the Palestinian Basic Law.

His Excellency thanked President of Palestine Mr. Mahmoud Abbas for his continuous support and Prime Minister Dr. Al Hamdallah for his cooperation and commitment to achieve independence of judiciary, H.E also thanked the Government of Canada and UNOPS for their support and fellow up in all phases of the project.

Chancellor Saad expressed his wish for Tulkarem new building to achieve all goals in providing judicial services in Tulkarem Governorate for citizens.

For his part, Prime Minister Al Hamdallah declared that the mission to achieve justice and access to courts is not an easy task and needs to allocate all efforts form all sectors and partners which guarantees humane rights and freedoms.

It is worth noting that the total amount of EU fund was around 19.3 million Canadian Dollar in addition to 4 million Canadian Dollar allocate to facility management and building capacity, it is worth noting that the project was built on 8900 square meters which will provide the current and future needs for the court and public prosecution.
