Dec 6, 2017 – Chief Justice Chancellor Emad Saleem Sa’ad representing High Judicial Council and Mr. Douglas Bradfoot the Special Representative of Government of Canada, celebrated the corner stone laying ceremony of Hebron courthouse as part of Canadian support for justice sector; in the presence Constitutional Court member Judge Rafeq abu-Ayash, Attorney General Dr. Barak, Hebron Governor Kamel Hameed, Deputy Minister of Justice Abu Sondos, Deputy Special Representative of UNDP Khaled Shahwan in addition to officials from Hebron Governorate.
The project aims to enhance rule of law and strengthen citizens trust in judicial authority; Knowing that the budget of this project is approximately 32.7 Million Canadian Dollar. Hebron Courthouse will include 2020 offices, First Instance court, Magistrate Court, Appeals Court, Public Prosecution and judicial police services.
In his speech, Chancellor Sa’ad indicated that this edifice came to meet an urgent need in Hebron Governorate and in accordance to HJC strategic plan to develop Palestinian judiciary in accordance of international standards and to guarantee safety and security of citizens. H. E. also thanked President Abbas for his continuous support to the independence of Palestinian Judiciary and appreciated the role of UNDP in following and supervision over the project.
